Common minerals, digital scales and the graduated cylinders are necessary for a lab the students will complete. The students will discover the names of unknown minerals by finding their density, color hardness, streak, etc. The scale and graduated cylinders will give the students the ability to calculate density. The tape is used daily to attach printed information into their notebooks. These materials will be used to satisfy the required state standard on identifying common minerals. Our children need to know that minerals are used in everything we use every day. If children know what the minerals look like prior being manufactured they may create a real life connection and a need to preserve our resources.
