Our students are no longer given an opportunity to take Home Economics, therefore they will never be given a chance to learn how to use a sewing machine. I would like to give them this opportunity; they are intrigued by any hands-on activity and I know they will love this as well. Our first big project with the sewing machines will be to make their own aprons. We will travel to our local fabric store so that each student will be able to pick out their own fabric to make an apron. This is an amazing opportunity for them to see something from start to finish and have tangible results. Sewing is a skill that every individual should have, whether it is to reattach a button or patch a hole in a favorite pair of pants. We will practice these basic sewing skills prior to starting our apron project. I would like students to see that it is a useful skill to know and will come in handy throughout their lives.
