My students are both academically low and have many behaviors. When they read, it builds their fluency and comprehension as well as teaches them social skills. Reading opens the door to academics, dreams, and new places. Reading provides an opportunity to escape your own world and learn new things about others. My students may not have the same opportunities as other children but through reading, they may get the chance. Reading fun books like the My Weird School books and Diary of A Wimpy Kid, provides a comical escape from their everyday lives. Reading may also open the doors to dreams my students may have. Many of the nonfiction books open my kids' eyes to a world where they can do and be anything. I hope to inspire them to be the best they can be and set their goals and dreams high.
