Think about showing up to chess club and being unable to play because there aren't enough sets to go around. Imagine wanting to improve your game but not having tournament clocks or resources to better your play. We have students who will be learning to play without adequate materials. This year we have some extraordinary chess players, kids who play (and win) in tournaments combined with students who have never even picked up a pawn. These newbies are just learning and every skill set in between, all discovering and exploring their love of chess. Aside from the program at Mulberry Senior, the high school students in the club will be undertaking a service project to work with local elementary and middle school students to learn to play (and love) chess.
