This year, I have a group of bright and active five and six year olds participating in my classroom. My goal is to provide the best academic environment for my students in order to foster a love of learning. I have been part of a cohort of teachers working to create individualized education for my students. Individualized education is learner led, focused, demonstrated and connected. Part of individualized learning focuses on student choice. This project would provide student choice of seating and the materials necessary to support their choices. My goal is to provide an individualized academically engaging environment for my students and an important part of the classroom environment is the physical environment. I want to be able to offer my students age appropriate seating options. An active six year old should not be stuck at a table and chair all day. We take many movement breaks in my classroom but for many students, that is not enough. They are fidgeting in their chair, climbing on tables and looking uncomfortable most of the day. I want to be able to provide a welcoming environment centered on student choice to help create a life long love of learning. With your help, I will be able to provide seating options for students, the materials for students to work in their area of choice and properly store student materials and seating.
