This project focuses on students finding more about their identity. Identity is important to everyone. Young people are constantly searching for a tribe, a group, a sense of belonging. Our identities change as we grow and as we surround ourselves with people who share this identity. As humans, we strive to ground who we are in a stable place, a place to ground ourselves, a place to plant our roots. My students need DNA Ancestry testing for our exploration of our history.
We are constantly in the midst of exploration; we are exploring who we are, who we were and who we want to be. There are parts of identity we can never change: Our Ancestry.
This project is designed to inspire young people to explore their ancestry, the cultures and traditions that run through their bloodline. We are hoping to find the ancestral foundation of ourselves and find connections we share as citizens of the world. Students will be completing a research project based on their results and presenting their findings to the class and school.
