My students come from low socioeconomic homes. Over ninety percent of my students are on free or reduced lunch programs to help provide them with lunch each day. Our school has about 450 students with very little parental support. The PTA consists of only 3 parents who do as much as possible, but simply can not provide our school with all of it's needs. Although my students have hard lives and deal with issues far beyond their years, they have the sweetest, kindest nature. We have very little behavior problems, and most of our students are just excited to be getting an education. Now days, it is hard to find students that appreciate their education, but I work with the rarest group of kids in Texas. They never complain, and although they behave as children should be expected to behave, they always take responsibility for their actions and their education. They make me so proud everyday that they conquer the statistics and come to school excited to better their lives.
