I am requesting a Cricut Maker and accessories for use with my enrichment class and elementary student council. Both are multi-grade, creative, and enthusiastic groups whose members are leaders in our school. Students will use this machine to create Genius Hour and STEAM projects and to promote school spirit. With the Cricut Maker, my enrichment students will be able to truly bring their Genius Hour projects to life. These innovative and determined students invent complex items. The Cricut Maker and accessories will make a huge difference in their learning by providing them with a way to accurately cut parts for larger projects. This will allow them to plan and create projects, such as robots or scale model bridges, that might not be feasible without the machine. Some examples of possible student projects are decorating t-shirts with heat transfer vinyl (cut with the Cricut, "weeded" with the tools in the accessory pack, and adhered with the heat press) to promote a community service project, mass producing magnets and stickers to set up a business, and creating polyhedron 3D shapes. My student council focuses on school spirit and community service. They make posters almost weekly, and the Cricut can help make these posters look more professional and easier to read. One idea a student had was to make and sell school decals for vehicles, computers, or notebooks. The profits would be donated to one of the charities we support, such as the local food pantry. The student council also creates gifts for teachers, staff, and students at various times throughout the year. Some teacher gifts the members could make with the Cricut and heat press are grade-level team t-shirts, desk accessories, and vinyl decals for computers.The Cricut will make these gifts easier to plan, make, and personalize.
