By using these items in our classroom, students are finding comfortable places to work when we move around the room to work independently. These materials will allow each student to have the option of using something during this work time. Currently we have three pillows that are falling a part and two beanbag chairs that are now flat. These would be a great addition to our classroom environment and help students to feel more at “home” when they work. I know my students would benefit greatly from these different seating options as they are hard at work in the classroom! As Line Creek Leaders, these students are in charge of their learning each day. Every day we discuss the importance of being leaders in the classroom and outside of the classroom. In a student-centered classroom, I want students to feel empowered and know they are leaders. When I give this opportunity to students to make choices in their seating, they are finding places that allow them to work as a learner and leader. This helps students to become comfortable in the classroom as they continue to grow. I am asking for a variety of different seating options to help my students feel at home, and items that will allow them to find their own comfortable space to focus as a reader and writing. In particular, I am seeking soft seats and floor seats with backs for students who would like to sit on the floor as they work. I am also looking to purchase wobble cushions for my students who would like to wobble and wiggle as they work. These can be use either on the floor or in chairs! I have also selected stability balls with legs for my students who need to move slightly.
