I want to incorporate a variety of sensory friendly seating options so that my seventh-grade students can be fully engaged in classroom activities. Sitting, day in and day out, in rigid chairs does not meet our students' needs. Research has shown that academic achievement increases when students' sensory needs are met. The yoga balls will be placed in our cooperative groups, and the sensory bands will be placed at each table grouping. The rug and bungee chairs will be a cozy nook for independent reading and collaborative learning. Stand up desks will be available to those students who prefer that option. Fidget toys will keep students on task! I want to establish a classroom where there is room for all learners!
