Do you remember the sense of accomplishment you felt when, as a child, you created something of your very own? Using Lego building blocks, I want to provide that same opportunity for self-expression to my students. Every Friday, my campus holds "Choice Time." This is a period of time where students go to a self-selected, interest-based class to explore and learn. I host a Lego building class where students can hone their design skills in an imaginative way. We play Lego Bingo, have themed competitions (Halloween Frankenstein Build-Off) and build amazing creations on our classroom Lego wall. In addition to our Choice Time class, our campus Life Skills students regularly use our Legos and Lego wall to do things like creating a "map" of our town. Right now, we do not have access to many building blocks and this limits the students' ability to be creative. I would love to be able to provide this experience to more students but cannot do so with the limited resources that I have currently.
