Fractions are one of the most important concepts in the fourth grade math curriculum, and for success in life. In order for students to fully understand fractions they need to be able to touch them, move them, organize them in different ways. These hands-on learning experiences prepare them to understand more abstract representations in the future. These sets of fractions strips will enable each and every student to manipulate fractions as they build their concrete understanding of unit fractions, equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers. The fraction strips will allow students to be fully engaged in a tactile and visual manner, along with cognitively. This will allow students of multiple learning modalities to access the vital concept of fractions.
