If we truly want to prepare our students for the real world, we need to put them in responsive, dynamic environments that reflect life outside of a traditional classroom. Flexible seating offers a type of environment that is full of choices, where children are responsible for their own learning. Throughout the years, the expectation for students and educators have evolved and changed. My teaching has changed, as an effect my classroom design needs to change right along with it. Students spend much of their day sitting in desks. The option of flexible seating such as: a central rug(meeting place), wobble stools, floor seats, and comfortable chairs will allow the students comfort. In addition to, empowering each student with a choice of seating, allowing students to quickly and easily work in pairs, and is a great option for students with ADD, ADHD, and other sensory input needs.
