My students are 9th and 10th grade Honors and Gifted students at Ellender Memorial High School. The Student-Family income of our students is 27.3% lower than other Louisiana high schools, and through a grant for low income schools- 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also very culturally diverse with large populations of White, Black, Native American, Hispanic, and Asian students. Despite the economic disadvantages that many of our students face, Ellender is serious about education. The school motto is that "Average is Over- Exceed and Excel!" Our students have embraced this positive thinking and set high goals for themselves and work hard to reach those goals. The humility, kindness, intelligence, and work-ethic of my students inspire me to be a better teacher everyday. I love my students, my school, and my job, and all donations towards my project will be greatly appreciated.
