By bringing in a set of sensory tables, my students will have options to explore sensory materials both independently and in small groups. Several of my students are sensory adverse and allowing them a small area that they can explore on their own will help them overcome some of this adversity. Many of my students want to be part of a peer group. Giving the students a way to be engaged in parallel play and having their own materials will allow them to learn to engage with one another. The addition of a sensory table in my classroom allows my students to not only play and learn through sensory, but it gives them an area to take a sensory break. Some students like to squeeze and squish in order to control overwhelming emotions. By providing them with this table in the classroom they have somewhere to go and calm themselves down.
