Ceramic art is a popular subject for all the students at our school, from Kindergarten up to the 12th grade. They have a true fascination with clay and what can be done with it. When they witness the various stages of a completed ceramic piece, students become enthralled with the processes of clay art. I intend to continue the California ceramic tradition at our school that is so established in our public school system. Southern California has many fine ceramic artists who learned the fundamentals of their art/craft in their high schools. My students anticipate the clay units, and ask right off at the start of the school year to start working in clay. When the home kiln I have used to fire their work for years expired, my students were disappointed to find that their projects could not become permanent. My mission is to get a new kiln functioning at our school before the end of the school year.
