Education is constantly evolving. One of the things that has not changed: Children LOVE to listen to wonderful stories read aloud to them! Whether it is a children's classic, an engrossing chapter book, or a passion-inspiring non-fiction science book, kids, just like adults, are transported and inspired by books. Since many Kinder students are emerging readers, listening and following along to books on tape is a great early reading tool. An important section of our daily schedule is small group instruction Students may meet with the teacher for interventions, write stories, practice new phonics skills, and read books. Students are divided into groups where they are actively engaged while building their stamina in all areas of language arts. One of the components of the small group instruction involves students listening to books. I am fortunate to have a large collection of books on tape but did not have an effective way to allow kids to choose and listen to these great books. I have found a small tape player that students can operate easily! And it even comes with headphones!
