Flexible seating gives my students the opportunity to become more accountable for their learning. Instead of everyone sitting in the traditional chairs, the students choose how and where to sit. When they are expected to complete independent work, they are given the the choice of where to sit in the classroom to complete their work. Currently in the classroom, the students are given the option of sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard or they may sit or stand at a table around the classroom. The students choose a spot to sit where they are not going to distract themselves nor others from completing their task. There is a decrease in classroom disruptions and a significant increase in productivity when the students are given the opportunity to choose where they want to sit and work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The yoga ball chairs allow room for some movement while sitting and are a great alternative to traditional chairs. Additionally, the wobble cushions can be placed on the traditional chairs to allow movement as well but with more stability than the yoga ball chair. The wobble stool is great for students who tend to lean back in the traditional chairs. They work for the student that just needs to get some movement out in order to concentrate. My students have already begun discovering what type of seating works for them. I'm confident that they will be even more successful with more flexible seating options to choose from.
