Want to know how to give a principal heartburn? Tell her you desperately need to throw out your desks! Well, several of them anyway. With your help, I would like to transform my classroom from a one-size-fits-all classroom to a comfortable, flexible, and inviting HOME for all learners. Simply put, some of my kids can't learn because they can't get comfortable. Walk into my classroom and you will see many students with knees in seats and rears in the air: fidgeting fidgets who simply cannot get comfortable. Some of this is due to the simple fact 8 and 9 year old kids aren't meant to be still for hours. However, you will sadly find that the true culprit is that many are plagued by the affects of being born addicted to opiods. This crisis in our area has changed the way we need to teach in order to meet these very real needs for constant tactile stimulation and movement. The tables I'm requesting are adjustable. The tea table is low profile and perfect for sitting on the cushions my mother-in-law is busily sewing. The two activity tables are adjustable in height and can be used with balance balls, stools, kneeling pads, or even while standing. With the addition of some table trays students will have a variety of options for comfort and movement. These tables will help me create an environment that is more inviting and perhaps more of a home than an institution.
