Some students need to be taught differently in order to master new practices and ideas, and in the same way, some need seating that helps them, and the students around them, to focus. Differentiated seating will help those students I have who are unable keep their bodies still. Often, these students need to stand up or walk around, and sometimes I find them tilting their standard chairs back onto two legs, which is tremendously dangerous. With wobble stools available to engage the physical core of certain students - their buzzing bodies will be distracted and their minds will have more energy to engage in their learning tasks. These stools are a perfect example of flexible seating. Unlike a cushion, they don't give a signal to the other kids that there is "something wrong" with them. They are also usable at desks without being a distraction to others - unlike kneeling on chairs, rocking on chairs, or simply walking around the classroom. I am so excited to have another option available to help my students learn.
