The iPad mini would allow access to different technology for research and reinforcement tasks to help motivate the students using a multi-modality approach with fun and exciting graphics, auditory feedback, and game formats. For example, a child who is working on articulation would benefit from seeing a visual model of how the sound should be produced using an app on the iPad, some of my language students would benefit from games that would reinforce a skill that has been previously taught in a highly motivating way, and a student targeting fluency skills would be able to research famous individuals who also stutter or read an essay written by other students who stutter. "Education is not the filling of a pot, but the lighting of a fire"-WB Yeats. Each and every one of my students is working hard to overcome and improve their specific areas of weakness in their communication skills. They each have different strengths and weaknesses. However, there is one important key factor that is pertinent for ALL of my students' success and that is motivation. Sometimes it's hard to stay motivated and continue to work towards something that is challenging or hard so I'm often looking for fun and exciting opportunities for students to engage and become active learners. Technology is such a big part of students' lives and I would love to incorporate that in our speech and language groups to help improve the drive and motivation of my students to grow as communicators.
