Academic Magnet High School is a public school for academically gifted students in the Charleston County Public School system. I started a black and white film photography program several years ago not only because it is my specialty area, but because the medium is such a great balance of aesthetics, science, math, and narrative potential. Additionally, teaching students how to interpret the aesthetic properties of photography holds the potential for them to be more aware of the power of the photographic image in their daily lives. The average class size is 26-28 students ranging in age from 14-18 years.
