Using dictionaries is a skill that is taught beginning in third grade. Our media center currently has one torn paperback dictionary for student use. Because there are barely any resources available, we want to purchase a class set for media center use. Students will use the dictionaries to learn the use of guide words, parts of speech, text features, and more. Of course, they will also learn how to find the meaning of unknown words. Learning how to use updated dictionaries will make a significant impact on my students' learning.
