Imagine a town without any "green stuff" like trees or grass, the things that people enjoy most about outdoors. Imagine it is just gray, concrete, boring buildings. We are losing the “green stuff” in writing. Our students are busting at the seems with creativity. We want to bring back the joy of writing or the "green stuff". Let's bring back the joy of writing by providing our students with a specific place to write and to work with “cool” writing tools. Some examples are gel pens and decorative pencils to spike excitement, colored dry erase markers to edit, and erasers to allow for mistakes that help us learn. To help students be more efficient during writing stations, I have chose to request a storage cabinet that will allow all materials to be organized and easily accessed by the students. Making it easy for the students to access their writing tools will allow stations to be more independent and in return allow me to conference one-on-one with students during that time and provide individualized learning. I have also requested a table as a place to sit and write during writing time. This will give them a change of scenery and allow them to have a specific place to write. My students love to sit around the room and write. We feel that it gives them a little more freedom to write and be creative. Our students use S.W.A.G to edit pieces of writing. This stands for Starts with a capital, Written neatly, A space between words, Give a punctuation. We thought if the students could wear (cool) hats and glasses that it might make editing more fun and also provide a reminder of things they need to look for while editing. Also, they will dry erase sleeves to save paper.
