My students come from various backgrounds, and though I have many books on my shelves for them to read and check out from me, I am forever searching for more relevant titles for them to explore. The titles I have chosen for this project feature outlooks on African-American youth & social justice, forensic science mixed with an interesting take on the fight against gender-stereotypes, as well as themes relatable to children who are wards of the state or feel out of place. A couple are a lower Lexile level for those who struggle with reading and a couple are the perfect place for students to begin experimenting with the language and themes of higher level texts.
