Currently, my students have their own desk which is a chair connected to a small desk top that students can only enter from one side. I have a large wooden desk, used for storage purposes. A kidney table would change the atmosphere of our classroom because myself and students would have a place to come together and work. My students and I love to work together. Right now, to make a small group, I have to meet with students on the floor so that we have a place to sit together. In an attempt to work one on one with a student at their seat is nearly impossible because the desk surface is so small and we are stuck between other students. Having a designated space for kids to have more room to work and explore with other students and teacher guidance would really change the learning experience for all of my students. In a language arts classroom, we are always writing. Students are grouped as they move through different skills and different stages of the writing process. With a kidney table, groups can be called to work together through their skills and stages in the writing process. In social studies, students again are at many different levels. With a kidney table, I can pull each level of learners together to meet the needs of the group and individuals.
