The books that the students currently have available are outdated and falling apart. We are in need of updated literature that addresses modern issues and that is engaging to students. The Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, is a current socially relevant piece of literature that integrates 6th-grade social studies standards with language arts. This book addresses issues of social justice in today's society. As we all know, engaging literature motivates students to read more. This new book will encourage students to become more literate and expose them to modern issues. Our future depends on informed and empathetic citizens.
