My students" excitement for learning gets me excited to teach them every day. By far their most favorite part of the day is when I read aloud to them. I love seeing them so engaged in books! I truly believe this time of the school day gets them the most excited about reading. My class is extremely energetic. Depending on the book, when I read aloud they are in a trance. They are so engaged in the books it is even better than a movie or iPad time.
Our class needs better books that continues to build their love of reading. As a 5th year teacher my book selection is weak. The amount of good read aloud books that I have are not enough to keep their interest all year long. Many of them are outdated and lack excitement. So often I end up using read aloud books online. My class likes this but it is simply not the same as having their teacher read to them. They need to see me being excited about reading to light the excitement in themselves. Also after I am finished reading they are able to have a hands on experience with the books I have read. They are able to remember words and able to read with fluency and expression they heard through teacher read aloud.
I am so beyond excited to potentially raise the money for so many great books to add to our class library. In a world where technology is taking over, it is a breath of fresh air to see kids more excited about carpet time than screen time.
