Using ukuleles in the classroom is a growing and successful trend in music education. They are a relatively inexpensive, appropriately-sized, portable instrument that offers favorable outcomes. The use of ukuleles teaches numerous musical concepts, including pitch, rhythm, harmony and expression. They allow all students to experience success and pride in accomplishment, which leads to a desire to learn more and continue music studies. Study after study has proven that learning to read music and play an instrument aides in other academic areas as well. Most importantly, playing ukulele is fun! A student of elementary age that is successful and enjoys making music is more likely to be a music maker and include music in their lives forever.
