Hi everyone! My role as the Social Emotional Learning Specialist (SELS) is new to Paradise Valley Unified School District this year. I am so excited to work at our Elementary School- home of the Sandsharks! The students here are totally JAWSome! My office space is located in a classroom that is also being used for curriculum storage. I would like this space to be less stimulating and more awesome for when students come and see me. I am really hoping to get "under the water" themed tapestries to cover the storage around the perimeter of the classroom so students feel more calm and relaxed when they enter the social emotional learning space. I will be meeting with students in small groups to work on social emotional skills and checking-in with kiddos on an as-needed basis if they are experiencing big emotions. A peaceful environment will help them feel more focused and soothed. Some other materials that I am requesting are miscellaneous items that would be helpful to have in this space. The desk chair that is currently being used is broken and a replacement would be very helpful. The bean bag chair will go in the calming corner I have created. This is a space that students can sit to use coping skills and tools. I have a small chalkboard, but I need chalk so students can draw their feelings on it. And I am also hoping to get baskets with sharks on them as well as a few coping tools that will go in them for the calming corner.
