My students don't learn in a typical fashion. Whole group instruction is hard for them and most curriculums are too wordy for them to follow. Giving my students access to hands on materials, like puzzles, will help my students learn in a more concrete way. Not only will it help them generalize their letter and number knowledge it will also give them tools to build their independent skills. Learning how to start, work and finish a task all on their own is a struggle for most of my students. Puzzles will allow me to give them tasks that have a clear start and finish so that they can learn to build their independent skills without getting frustrated at the task in front of them.
