My students have been learning about Peru and how the economy is different than ours here in the U.S. In particular, they discovered how clothing is hand-made, using the resources that are natural to the Peruvian environment, such as llama wool and dyes from roots, vines, and insects. We researched how llamas are shorn, their wool is dyed naturally and how the textiles are woven into brightly colored, all natural, man-made clothes, that are warm for the climate in the Ande Mountains. The yarn purchased with this Donorschoose project will go toward small woven projects, so that students can learn hands-on, how much work hand-weaving is.
