It is essential to not only learn about our students and families at the beginning of the year, but it's important to orient students to each other in how we are similar and how we are different. Throughout the year we learn so much to celebrate our diverse classroom, and these books will help us launch into discussions on race, gender, culture and bias. The books on this list will not only help students learn about inclusiveness and diversity, but it may be the very first time they truly see themselves represented in a story book. They will be used during our daily read aloud during virtual learning, and brought back to the classroom once it's safe to return. I'm hoping these texts become our student's beloved books we can return to over and over again.
