Have you ever had to sit through long meetings or conferences? Can you imagine a second grader spending an entire school day in a hard, plastic chair. Offering alternative seating in the classroom gives students the opportunity to begin making choices which support learning and individual success. Recent research also shows that classrooms with flexible seating have less behavior issues and students are more engaged in lessons. Students will also be able to spread out and have room to work wherever they are most comfortable. Allowing alternative seating in the classroom gives children the chance to be successful, concentrate on tasks, and be comfortable in a way that a traditional classroom does not accommodate.
