My students are curious, appreciative, expressive young people who have very little in their home lives due to generational poverty, neighborhood gang activity, and overwhelmed single parents. Simple hands-on activities such as building using Lego kits gives students and families an opportunity to work together to build assigned models, compute volume, and report findings to classmates. My students are so deserving of having this project funded so that more tactile learning occurs rather than the seemingly endless lecture style that has become pervasive in education. Spacial understanding is a skill that all students can develop.
