Our district wanted a way to communicate to the parents and community all of the great things we have happening in our classrooms and school organizations. Out of this came an idea for a video newsletter to be shared with parents and the community. In order to do so, I was approached to make this happen. I looked to the 8th grade students and asked for students who might be interested in forming a Broadcast Club. I currently have approximately 10 students who answered the call and signed up. The students will be taking information from collected fact sheets, writing news stories, and filming and presenting these stories on-air in a news program format. To make editing the piece as streamlined as possible, I am asking for a MEVO Plus camcorder and Galaxy Tab tablet. What's great about this technology is that the students can easily film the newscast in a "live-to-tape" fashion, and I will edit in the pictures and videos that will make the stories come to life in post-production. (Eventually, I would like to teach the students how to edit so that it is entirely student-led with me as a facilitator!) Once filmed and edited, it will be distributed district-wide to show what awesome and creative projects are being done in every building!
