My student-athletes will use yoga mats to practice mindfulness, breathing and yoga for mental and physical health. We currently practice on TURF, whether it is 90 degrees or 30 degrees. In my district, we are at nearly 80% poverty level. My students deserve to use a mat when they practice yoga. They currently practice on turf, in socks. Mats would make a HUGE DIFFERENCE! Research shows yoga is a practice which enriches both mental and physical health. Our young people face many challenges. The ability to quiet the mind and reduce injury at the same time makes YOGA a WIN-WIN opportunity!
