My kindergarteners are true scientists! They absolutely thrive when given the opportunity to explore our state standards through hands-on learning. We are currently investigating animals. We are exploring animal needs and habitats. This incubator classroom set will allow my students the opportunity to experience what we learning by providing a hands on approach. This project will also teach my children the value of responsibility. They will have an active role in the daily care of the ducklings. The ducklings will also play an important role in my reading instruction. I titled this project the Duckling Reading Project because it provides my struggling readers the opportunity to read to a duckling. These students are insecure and do not want to buddy read with other students. I have watched students read to an animal when they would refuse to read to people. Ducklings don’t judge how you read. They cuddle up with the child and this provides them the encouragement they need to keep reading. I’m so excited about this Duckling Reading Project because it will support my Science, Reading, and Character Development instruction in my classroom.
