Although we are a STEAM school and encouraged to incorporate technology, kindergarten does not always get as much access to various forms of technology. Many of our students come into school at an already high functioning level of tech savvy (such as iPads and tablets) and often learn better through this way. The iPads would provide my students with access to a wide world of learning applications such as Handwriting Without Tears, sight word games, book read alouds, and opportunities for project based learning/research. Many of these apps are only available on iPads vs. tablets. Handwriting and sight word knowledge are two key foundational skills in kindergarten that students often get bored with the same basic activities for practice. The iPads would encourage excitement for learning/practice.
