To instill a lifelong joy of reading, I need diverse books that empower and validate my students by seeing themselves in the books they read. By building an inclusive classroom library that reflects the diverse cultures and perspectives of my students, I am not only teaching how important it is to respect and honor our differences, but I am able to show them through the books we read. Diverse and inclusive books help to cultivate compassion, awareness, and understanding. The best way to increase a student’s reading ability is through books that interest them and can connect to their personal experiences. My students are enthusiastic learners who are ready to take in newfound knowledge in which to engage with each other and the world around them!

About my class
