Flexible seating creates a learning environment that looks and feels differently from classrooms scattered with traditional desks and chairs. The counter/bar height tables and chairs that I want to add to my classroom will allow students to sit in a variety of seating arrangements to support collaborative learning experiences. Currently my students can choose to sit at a few different tables and chairs; on carpet or Adirondack Chairs. Tables and chairs of elevated heights will appeal to students who need a different visual perspective including those who want to stand and work instead of sitting down. My students enjoy coming to my classroom because of the few flexible seating options that are currently available; however, students will be even more excited and motivated to come to class with the additional seating options. Allowing students to make choices about their learning empowers them and motivates them to learn. More importantly, students will want to come to a classroom where they feel comfortable and relaxed when taking on the challenges of improving their reading and math proficiency, so I need to “keep them on the edge of their seats!”
