My students will benefit from sensory materials. They can have their sensory time and when it gets to learning time, they will better focus on the topic. A calming and safe corner is prevalent in my classroom, but it is far from safe! We need a mat (to which I've been asking the school since last year) so they students can cool down if they are in crisis. Simple learning tasks like the locks (matching numbers and letters) are an independent skill that the students can perform and succeed at while strengthening fine motor skills. Having more functional and appropriate materials are what these students need!!! We need to get them ready for the real world by working on basic skills.
