Socialization is a fundamental component in employability skills in general but even more important for teen and young adults with delays in language, social skills, adaptive skills and motor skills. All of these things can be taught sitting at a table with peers interacting during snack, lunch and work activities. Our school has some outdoor seating available; however it is located too far away from our classrooms for our students to use safely. I have personally seen how students' development has been enhanced by having casual outdoor seating and gathering places for them to interact with each other during both instructional and non-instructional times of the day. These tables are particularly great because they allow for students to sit together in a circle which even promotes more interaction!
