As soon as I am finished giving directions to my students and I am releasing them to work the first questions I get asked is, "Mrs. Barton can we go around the room." My student's love to work around the room whenever they are working with others or working by themselves. Having better options for flexible seating will allow my students to feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. This will help create a more comfortable environment for my students. An uncomfortable student is a distracted and unproductive student. Children need to move. Flexible seating will allow the students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which will increase oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. Flexible seating offers the students to have some control over their environment, a sense of community and collaboration. It also allows the students to move and stimulate students' sense of touch.
