This year my second grade students have experienced increased independence, engagement, time on task, and strengthened communication skills by learning in an environment that promotes individual choice and preference in seating. Each and every day during each and every academic workshop, students are allowed to choose which learning space best meets his or her needs. Hokki stools, balance balls, and tall stools have a proven track record of success in our classroom. These seating options allow children to wobble discreetly while working, provide comfortable learning spaces for collaboration, and/or promote a change in scenery to keep student perspectives fresh with each passing academic block. These Hokki stools, balance balls, and tall stools are the missing pieces to our flexible seating learning environment!
