My students are incoming freshman who have the potential to be "baby gang-bangers" or be college bound students. Ninety percent of the students have a free/reduced lunch label. Due to severe budget cuts, the students are already short-changed in materials and resources. Gang initiations and drugs are readily available to these students at a moment's notice. Most of these students are very smart but because of the language barrier, the students often feel that they cannot be successful in school and turn to gang life. As a dual language teacher, I am trying to bridge the language gap.
