As a first grade teacher, I am proposing to provide students with leveled readers in my library. This will allow for students to be able to have a variety of books that meet their reading needs. I believe, as an educator, it is imperative that students are given a diverse selection of books in order to increase their interest in reading. Foundationally, students are just beginning to become independent readers. It is vital that the students have a choice in what they are choosing to read. We are also teaching them about “Just Right Books.” In order to be successful in teaching this, I have to have the essential resources needed to support their learning. Students are just beginning on their long journey for a love of reading. Dr. Seuss said it best with, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”
