The students I support enjoy listening to a variety of texts. When a topic that sparks their interest arises, they ask questions and do research on their own. However, many of the students struggle with reading comprehension because their emergent skills need to be improved. These skills include decoding, fluency, and vocabulary. My students are eager to read aloud, but their inability to decode unfamiliar words in a fluent manner hinder their comprehension skills. The materials I have selected will provided a wealth of ideas, strategies and reinforcements to help strengthen these emergent skills needed to improve the students all around reading abilities.
