I believe instilling a love of reading is the best thing you can teach a student. A book can transport them outside of their own little world, whether it be to Hogwarts, the Shire, the antebellum South, or even Ancient Egypt. My students are struggling and reluctant readers, the average reading level is 3rd grade, and I see the frustration on their faces every day. This set of 35 books would be used every day during our Ancient Greece Unit to explore mythology. This novel could transport my students into a world of Greek Mythology and take them on a grand adventure. This book could be the spark that ignites a love of reading or gives confidence to the struggling reader. With this book, my students will have a storyline to go with the historical narrative of Greek mythology. History will come alive for them with the Lightning Thief.
