My ESL class consists of two groups (English speakers and non-English speakers). Although the majority of the time this class is split into two groups, focusing on different objectives, I do enjoy doing units together as a class. Independent reading is something my students do every morning at the beginning of our class. However, some still struggle to find novels that really grab their interest. Having high-interest novels will motivate students to continue their reading and encourage them to put effort into finding a novel that they enjoy. In spite of the three weeks of instruction lost due to the fires, students remain eager to grow and continue improving their reading and writing skills. Having access to thirty copies of The Circuit: Stories from the Life of a Migrant Child and ten copies of Cajas de Carton will allow us to come together and experience this captivating autobiographical novel as a class, some in English and others in Spanish. Thank you so much for any help you can give my students!
